「人生いろんなことがあったけど、生まれてきてよかった」

 

先日の長倉伯博先生の講演、よかったですね。先生の近著、『ミトルヒト』の言葉を紹介します。

患者さんは多くの痛みを抱えてベッドにいます。「緩和ケア」とは、患者さんやその家族の抱えるさまざまな痛みを正確に把握することから始まります。患者さんの心に耳を傾け、共感し、最良のＱＯＬを実現できるよう対策を考えます。ＱＯＬとは、「クオリティ・オブ・ライフ」の略称で、一般に、一人ひとりの人生の内容の質や社会的にみた生活の質のことを指し、どれだけ人間らしい生活や自分らしい生活を送り、人生に幸福を見出しているか、ということです。

こんなふうに言うと、なかなか壮大な話に聞こえてしまうでしょうが、私自身は、「人生いろいろなことがあったけど、生まれてきてよかった、生きてきてよかった」と思えたら、ＱＯＬが向上したと言っても良いと思います。

また、緩和ケアは決して諦めのケアではありません。誰しもいつかは必ず命の終わりを迎えます。最期まで生き抜くことを支えるケアといって良いでしょう。

人生の最期に寄り添う心構えを伺うことができた今回の講演を忘れずにいましょう。
